How to Replace a Carburetor in a Honda Accord

The old model Honda Accords are the only Honda Accords that have carburetors on the engine these days. The carburetor on the Honda Accord engine sits on top of the engine. The carburetor is usually the first thing on the engine that you will see once you open the hood and look at the engine. The carburetor is held in place by a metal rod running through the center of the carburetor and is secured in place by a securing nut. To remove the carburetor you will have to remove the securing nut and disconnect the input and output lines from the carburetor.

Things You'll Need

  • Pliers
  • New carburetor
  • Open the hood of the Honda Accord and locate the carburetor on top of the engine. Locate the metal rod in the center of the carburetor and the securing nut.

  • Twist the securing nut off of the metal rod and set the nut aside. Disconnect the input and the output lines from the carburetor using the pliers to loosen the securing nuts connecting the lines to the carburetor. Label the lines left line and right line using masking tape and a pen for reconnection later.

  • Pull up on the carburetor and slide the carburetor off of the engine.

  • Slide the new carburetor down the metal rod and position the new carburetor in the same position as the old carburetor. Replace the securing nut to the metal rod and tighten the nut.

  • Reconnect the input and output lines to the carburetor and tighten the securing nuts using the pliers.
