How to Replace a PCV Valve on an Escalade

The positive crankcase ventilation valve commonly referred to as the PVC valve, is a critical component within your Escalade. The PCV valve is responsible for assisting with the removal of gasses from inside the engine's crankcase. This process reduces air pressure within the engine. The positive crankcase ventilation valve may become clogged with sludge or dirt causing it to not properly open and close. When this happens, it will cause your Escalade to experience hard starting. If not replaced in a timely manner, it also can cause oil to get past seals and cause more damage to your vehicle. To ensure your Escalade performs efficiently and no extra damage is done, it's important to replace the PCV valve immediately.

Things You'll Need

  • Owner's manual
  • Pliers
  • PCV valve
  • Allow the Escalade engine to cool down for 20 minutes; doing so will avoid any potential burns.

  • Open the hood of the Escalade. Find the PCV valve located on the crankcase. You will notice a small hose sticking out of the end of the valve. Be sure to have the owner's manual handy for exact location and diagram.

  • Use a pair of needle nose pliers to grip the rubber valve and pull the valve out. Disconnect the hose connected to the valve by gently pulling the hose out of the valve. It will come off fairly easy.

  • Install the new PCV valve. Reattach the hose into the valve and place the valve back into place by pushing the valve in. Close the hood of the Escalade and pull up to ensure the hood latched shut. This will prevent the hood from flying up while driving, which is very dangerous.
