How to Remove a Luggage Carrier from a Suburban

The Chevrolet Suburban is the ultimate SUV as far as room and comfort are concerned. To ensure you have more room for luggage, there is a luggage carrier that comes standard with all Suburbans and Tahoes. The carrier is removable as it is held on by screws that secure it to the roof, so taking it off is easy and requires just a few minutes of time.

Things You'll Need

  • Torx screwdriver
  • Clear silicone
  • Locate the screws holding the rack to the roof. There will be 10 screws total.

  • Loosen the driver's side screws with a Torx screwdriver. You may need a ladder to reach comfortably.

  • Loosen the passenger side screws with the Torx screwdriver. The screws will be in pairs with the exception of the one up front.

  • Lift the carrier off the top of the truck. The carrier will come off in one piece.

  • Cover the leftover holes with a dab of silicone. Squeeze silicone over the hole and with your finger smooth it out and let it dry. The silicone will seal the holes and prevent water from seeping into the truck.
