Replacing the driver seat in your GMC truck can be a quick and easy task. The seat is held on by four bolts. Some truck seats may have wiring attached if the seat has power options. The passenger seat will remove the same way. You can purchase new seats to match the trim level of your GMC, unless you are redoing the entire interior and want to change the color.
Open the driver door to access the driver seat. You will see four bolts that hold the seat in place. They run from a bracket in to the floorboard.
Ensure the seat is pushed all the way to the back. You will need the extra room to access the front bolts.
Unscrew the bolts with the socket wrench. Take the bolts out and place them to the side. You will need them for later use.
Slide the seat to the front position. You will need the room to unscrew the back bolts.
Unscrew the back bolts with the socket wrench. Place them to the side with the front two bolts.
Tilt the seat forward to access any wiring under the seat. You will have a maximum of two wiring harnesses to undo. Disconnect them by separating them at the connectors. There will be a release tab that you need to hold out while pulling the connectors.
Lift the seat out of the driver side of the truck. You may need assistance, because these seats can be bulky to lift.
Place the new seat in the spot where the old seat was positioned. Ensure the seat is titled up toward the steering wheel to access the wires.
Install the wiring harness to the seat. Push the connectors together till they click.
Push the seat back to the floor. Line the brackets at the base of the seat to their respective bolt holes in the floorboard.
Ensure the seat position is all the way forward. Install the back bolts first.
Start both back bolts through the bracket to the floorboard. Do not tighten till all four bolts are started.
Slide the seat all the way to the back position. Start the front bolts. Tighten the bolts once they have been started. Leaving the bolts loose will help in case the fit is not totally perfect and you need wiggle room to get all the bolts started.
Ensure the seat is pushed all the way to the front. Tighten the bolts in the back.
Adjust the seat to your comfort level. Ensure you have clear visibility of the mirrors and out of the windshield.
