Replacement Procedures for a Prius Navigation Disc

Replacing the outdated navigation DVD on a Toyota Prius is a common procedure necessary to keep the car's internal GPS running smoothly. Every year Toyota releases updated versions of the navigation system's maps to ensure the accuracy of the system's driving directions and street names, which can change over the years.

When to Update

  • Push the "Info-Phone" button located on the right side of the car's navigation panel. Touch the "Map Data" icon. The map data version number is displayed on the top of the screen. Check with the local Toyota dealer to determine if there is a newer version than the one currently operating in the vehicle.

Removing and Replacing the Navigation DVD

  • Push the "Info-Phone" button on the right side of the navigation panel, and touch "Map Data." This will take you to the Map DVD controls. Touch the "Eject DVD" icon on the bottom right corner of the screen. Be alert for the screen, which will extend outwards and flatten down to provide access to the DVD (lower slot) and CD (upper slot) drives.

Remove the outdated navigation disk, and insert the new one. Push the "Close" button on the right side of the navigation panel to retract the screen back into its original position.

Precautions

  • Take care not to accidentally jam your hand while closing the navigation display after you have inserted the new navigation disk. Never attempt to deal with or change the navigation DVD while driving the vehicle.

If you cannot eject a disc or it is stuck in the DVD drive, do not force it. Push the "close" button for five seconds and release. This should cause both the DVD and CD drives to eject.
