The Chrysler Sebring has a simple coolant system, and changing the coolant should take only 20 minutes to complete. The most important aspect of changing the coolant is making sure you get the antifreeze and water combination correct. The engine needs a 50/50 combination of both in order for the antifreeze to function correctly. The antifreeze will freeze quicker without water added to it. While changing out the antifreeze, inspect the rest of the coolant system for leaks and possible problems.
Place a drain pan underneath the radiator of the Sebring. Ensure the pan is capable of holding up to 3 gallons of coolant.
Locate the petcock valve at the bottom of the radiator. Loosen the petcock valve by turning it counterclockwise with a pair of pliers.
Allow the coolant to drain out. Retighten the petcock valve.
Open the radiator cap by pushing down on the cap and twisting it counterclockwise.
Pour 1 gallon of antifreeze in to the radiator. Follow up with 1 gallon of water. Repeat this step until the radiator is full.
Start the Sebring, and let it run for a few minutes. Turn the heater on to release the thermostat. The coolant level will drop as the coolant is circulating through the engine.
Pour antifreeze in the radiator until it is full. Tighten the cap back onto the radiator once the coolant level is full.
