How to Remove Rear Speakers in a Corolla

Improving the sound of your Toyota Corolla's audio system can be accomplished in several different ways, but one of the most effective and simplest is to replace the existing stock speakers with better aftermarket car audio speakers. Many audio aficionados like to replace the rear speakers as a first step.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • 10mm hex bolt driver
  • Open the trunk and fold down the the rear seat back.

  • Remove the seven Phillips screws from the front of the plastic rear deck trim. These were exposed by folding down the rear seat.

  • Pull the rear door's rubber gaskets away from the rear pillars. They don't have to be completely removed--just pull them away from the pillar trim and let them hang loose.

  • Pull out the plastic rear pillar trim panels, starting at the top front corners. Pull firmly away from the car body to release the retaining clips.

  • Left the front edge of the deck panel up firmly to release it from the retaining clips. Slide the seat belts out of the slots, then unplug the brake light harness and pull the panel forward and out of the car.

  • Take out the four 10mm bolts holding each speaker in place by turning them to the left. Pull each speaker up and away from its opening, then unplug the wiring harness from the back of it.
