How to Reset the Maintenance Light on a 2001 Honda Civic

So you are driving along in your car and suddenly a little yellow light comes illuminates on your dashboard that says "Maintenance Required." This indicator light is on all Hondas after a certain year and is there to remind you to perform scheduled maintenance specifically oil changes. It comes on and flashes several times 10,000 miles after it was last reset and stays on after 12,000-15,000 miles, if you do not reset it. So here are the simple steps required to reset this little indicator light on your car.

  • Put the key in the ignition, but do not start the car. Find the trip meter reset button on the dash board of the car.

  • With the engine off, depress the trip meter reset button and hold it for 10 seconds.

  • While still holding the trip meter reset button, turn the key and start the engine. This should reset the light. If it does not reset, turn the car off and try again.
