In order to maintain your Sportage you should perform regular maintenance duties, such as replacing serpentine belts on the engine. The serpentine belt drives all of the accessories in your vehicle and is essential to proper functioning of your Sportage. Replacing the belts is an easy task that can be performed by any home mechanic.
Park the Sportage in a level area and pop the hood. Locate the serpentine belt on the front of the engine.
Find the serpentine belt tensioner pulley on the lower left portion of the engine. Use the socket wrench to turn the tensioner bolt clockwise to release the tension on the belt.
Slide the old belt off of the pulleys and then slide the new belt onto the pulleys in the same pattern as the old belt. Turn the serpentine belt tensioner clockwise again and slip the belt over the tensioner pulley.
Release the tensioner pulley, close the hood, and turn the car on to see if everything works properly and the belt runs on the pulleys correctly.
