Removing the steering column cover in a Jeep Grand Cherokee can be done with a few simple tools and a little know-how.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Set of pliers
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Using the steering wheel tilt, angle the steering wheel all the way down towards you.

  • Look up from the bottom of the steering wheel. You'll see three or four holes in the plastic trim around the steering column. Insert a Phillips head screwdriver into each hole and unscrew the screws. Keep track of which screws come from which holes, because each screw is a different length.

  • Using a flathead screwdriver, pry the upper and lower panels of the steering column cover apart. If it does not come apart easily, use the flathead screwdriver to gently work it open.

  • You may have to use a pair of pliers to remove the tilt wheel rod. It should unscrew easily by turning it counter clockwise.

  • At this point, you should be able to remove each half of the steering column cover in your Jeep Grand Cherokee.
