If the turn signal in your Jeep Grand Cherokee is not working, chances are you need to replace the turn signal switch. The only way to replace the turn signal switch is to first remove the steering column cover. Removing the steering column cover in a Jeep Grand Cherokee can be done with a few simple tools and a little know-how.
Using the steering wheel tilt, angle the steering wheel all the way down towards you.
Look up from the bottom of the steering wheel. You'll see three or four holes in the plastic trim around the steering column. Insert a Phillips head screwdriver into each hole and unscrew the screws. Keep track of which screws come from which holes, because each screw is a different length.
Using a flathead screwdriver, pry the upper and lower panels of the steering column cover apart. If it does not come apart easily, use the flathead screwdriver to gently work it open.
You may have to use a pair of pliers to remove the tilt wheel rod. It should unscrew easily by turning it counter clockwise.
At this point, you should be able to remove each half of the steering column cover in your Jeep Grand Cherokee.
