Hard driving will require more attention and service to the various engine systems--as will frequent trips of less than 10 miles, long periods of engine idling or long drives at low speed. Either way, follow these simple steps to help your Chevy Suburban operate at optimal condition.
Replace the engine oil and filter; inspect chassis and suspension grease points and lubricate if necessary. Inspect the condition of CV joints, boots and seals, and check the transaxle fluid level every 7,500 miles. If you operate your vehicle under heavy conditions, perform this inspection every 3,000 miles. Also inspect and service the brake system and rotate tires every 6,000 miles under heavy driving conditions.
Inspect the operation of the cooling fan. A faulty fan may cause the engine to overheat or overcool, and damage the water pump. Make sure the fan operates at the predetermined engine temperature. Replace the spark plugs and spark plug wires and check the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system every 100,000 miles.
Replace the engine coolant and inspect cooling system components every 150,000 miles.
