Recommended Oil Change Intervals for the 2010 Dodge RAM 5.7

The Ram emblem first made an appearance on Dodge pickups in 1933, when Dodge mounted a Ram's head insignia on the hood of its pickups. In 1981, Dodge brought back the Ram's head, but this time they called the pickup the Ram. The 2010 Ram -- one year removed from a slight redesign -- came in three sizes: 1500, 2500 and 3500. The 1500 and 2500 versions both had an available 5.7-liter V-8 engine -- optional on the 1500 and standard on the 2500. Knowing when to change the oil in your 2010 Ram's 5.7-liter HEMI engine is imperative to its longevity.

Electronically Monitored Oil Life

  • Dodged fitted all 2010 Rams with an electronic oil life monitoring system. There are two ways in which the 2010 Ram alerts the driver of an impending need foe an oil change. The standard alert is a "Change Oil" flashing on the odometer display and a single chime; higher trim levels of the Ram have an Electronic Vehicle Information Center mounted in the center of the instrument cluster, which displays "Oil Change Required" and emits a single chime when an oil change is due.

Oil Change Intervals by Time

  • The 2010 Ram's oil life systems do not monitor the amount of time that has passed since the last oil change -- only miles driven and driving conditions. For this reason, you must change the 2010 Ram 5.7-liter's oil at least every six months.

Oil Change Intervals by Mileage

  • If you mistakenly reset your 2010 Ram's oil life system, or if it malfunctions, it may not turn on at the correct mileage. For this reason, always change the oil at least every 6,000 miles, regardless of whether the "Change Oil" or "Oil Change Required" message comes on or not.
