How to Charge the Battery Pack on a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid

The 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid is part of the second generation of Civic hybrids, often referred to as HCH-II. The vehicle is equipped with an Integrated Motor Assist battery that helps propel the car. During use, the battery will lose its charge over time. It also may lose its charge if the car is parked for extended periods. Charging the IMA battery takes only a few minutes and doesn't require any tools. For batteries that won't hold a charge, Honda offers a software upgrade designed to increase battery life and improve performance.

  • Start the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid and make sure the transmission lever is in "P," for park. Set the parking brake.

  • Push down on the accelerator until the tachometer reads 4,000 revolutions per minute. Check the IMA charge display to make sure the green bars are lit, which indicates the battery is charging. If the green bars do not light up, you have a problem with the electrical system and the vehicle needs to be serviced.

  • Keep enough pressure on the accelerator to maintain 3,500 to 4,000 rpms until the IMA charge display shows that the battery is fully charged.

  • Shut the vehicle off and restart it. The IMA charge display should read full. If it doesn't, repeat the procedure.
