How to Remove the Headlamp Assembly in the Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep Grand Cherokee headlamp assembly is a sealed beam unit, which means that in order to change the headlights, the entire assembly must be removed. Making sure that your headlights are in proper working order is a routine part of maintenance. A failed headlight can be dangerous for you as well as other motorists. Fortunately, removing the headlamp assembly is not a difficult task.

Things You'll Need

  • Philips head screwdriver
  • Unscrew the upper inside corner of the light bezel. The bezel is the ring that holds the headlights onto the car. Unscrew the two screws for the turn-signal assembly and pull it away from the Cherokee.

  • Unscrew the remaining two screws on the headlight bezel. The bezel will now pull completely away from the truck.

  • Locate the retaining ring that is around the headlight. There will be four screws, two in the bottom and two on the top of the headlight. Pull the retaining ring away from the headlight assembly.

  • Pull the headlight assembly away from the Jeep. Press the clip to remove the connector from the light assembly. Pull the wiring harness off of the headlight assembly.
