How to Turn on the Dome Lights in a 2008 Acadia

The GMC Acadia has an overhead dome light that comes on automatically in certain situations. Whenever you open the car doors or use the "Unlock" button on your GMC wireless remote, the dome light should turn on for a brief period. There are a few interior light settings that can cause the dome light not to turn on, but these are all controllable from inside the Acadia. Adjust the correct panel knobs to ensure the dome light works correctly.

  • Insert the key into the ignition and turn it as far as it will go before cranking the engine.

  • Open the driver's-side door. If the dome lights don't turn on, proceed to the next step.

  • Turn the instrument panel "Brightness" knob clockwise as far it will go; repeat Steps 1 and 2.

  • Press the "Dome Lamp Override" button, located beside the "Exterior Lamps" control. This control is located to the left of the steering wheel below the air outlet, and the button looks like a half-sun with a line slashed through it. If the button is pressed in, the dome lamps won't turn on. Make sure the button is in the "Off" or "Extended" position to ensure the dome light turns on.
