How do I Drain a K1500 Radiator?

The Chevrolet K1500 pickup was manufactured through the 1998 model year. General Motors recommends that you replace the coolant blend in the radiator every two years or any time you notice discoloration or debris within the radiator. You can drain the existing coolant from the system in minutes. Use a blend of equal parts of antifreeze and distilled water when you refill the coolant.

Things You'll Need

  • Wrench set
  • Drain pan
  • Place a large drain pan beneath the radiator drain plug on the driver's side of the radiator.

  • Loosen the drain plug with a wrench until the coolant begins to drain into the pan.

  • Tighten the radiator drain plug completely after the coolant drains. Remove the drain pan from under the truck and dispose of the used coolant properly.
