How to Take Care of a 2007 Yaris

The Toyota Yaris is a vehicle first produced by Toyota in 1999. Like any vehicle, the 2007 Toyota Yaris must have several maintenance tasks performed on it regularly in order to be kept running smoothly. The majority of these tasks can be performed at home with only a few tools.

Things You'll Need

  • Gloves
  • Clean rag
  • Funnel
  • Wrench

Engine Oil

  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and turn the engine off. Wait for a few minutes to allow the oil to drain back into the bottom of the engine.

  • Pull the dipstick out of the engine. Use a rag to clean off the excess oil.

  • Reinsert the dipstick into the engine and push it in as far as it can go to get an accurate reading.

  • Pull the dipstick out and look at the oil-level markings on the dipstick. If the oil is below the "L" mark, engine oil will need to be added.

  • Remove the oil filler cap and insert a funnel. Pour small quantities of SAE 5W-30 oil into the funnel, checking the dipstick regularly, until the oil reaches the "F" mark.

Engine Coolant and Brake Fluid

  • Wait until the engine is cool to touch. This will allow you to check the see-through coolant reservoir located at the front of the vehicle.

  • Check the coolant reservoir. If the level is on or below the "LOW" line, more coolant will need to be added.

  • Pour Toyota Super Long Life Coolant into the reservoir until it reaches the "FULL" line.

  • Look at the brake fluid reservoir located at the far right under the vehicle's hood. If the level is below the "MIN" line, add SAE J1703 brake fluid.

Battery and Lights

  • Remove the battery cover and check for corroded or loose connections, cracks or loose hold-down clamps. If the battery is corroded, wash it with a mixture of warm water and baking soda. Spread grease on the outside of the terminal to prevent further corrosion. If the connections are loose, tighten them with a wrench.

  • Check the indicator color on the battery. Depending on your battery indicator, the color may vary. Green or blue indicates good quality, dark or white indicates that charging may be necessary and light-yellow or red indicates that the battery is dead or will die.

  • Turn on all of the headlights and inspect them for functionality. Have someone step on the brakes while you stand behind the car to inspect the brake lights. If any light is malfunctioning, it must be replaced immediately. Consult your 2007 Toyota Yaris owner's manual for instructions on how to replace any light on your vehicle.
