What Makes a Car Sound Loud?

Unintentional excess noise coming from your car is unsettling and could be the sign of a bigger problem to come. You should have a mechanic check out the issue as soon as possible.

Muffler

  • A hole or crack in your muffler can cause your car to sound louder than normal. Most cities have a noise ordinance that requires you to have a fully operating muffler on your car. Muffler cracks can result from corrosion due to moisture buildup, which occurs most often during the winter.

Exhaust

  • A block or break in your exhaust line can cause extra noise. This may mean that a pipe is collapsed and is creating backup pressure or leakage. If your car is having problems accelerating or is getting poor gas mileage, this may be attributing to it.

Sound Amplifier

  • Many people upgrade sound systems by installing high-end speakers and amplifiers. These can be found at many electronics outlets or retail stores. They often amplify sound and create a cleaner sound than standard factory units. Unless you are a professional with wiring, you may want to have this installed by a friend or company that specializes in sound systems.
