How Do I Remove the Lug Nuts on a 2006 VW Jetta?

Just about every street car, including the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta, uses lug nuts to keep the wheel attached to the bolts on the wheel hub. If you want to change your tires, change your wheels, repair a flat, change your brake pads or access certain parts of the suspension, you'll need to remove the lug nuts in order to take the wheel off. Sometimes, however, the lug nuts are not the easiest things in the world to remove.

Things You'll Need

  • Lug nut wrench
  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Remove the hub cap or lug nut cover. Depending on which wheel option you chose for your Jetta, you may not have anything covering your lug nuts. If so, this step can be skipped.

  • Find the side of the lug nut wrench that matches the size of the lug nuts on your Jetta. Fit it to the lug nut.

  • Turn the lug nut wrench counterclockwise, using the sides that run parallel with the car as handles. When the lug nut breaks loose and begins to spin freely, move on to the second lug nut to the left. This ensures that your wheel will stay as flush as possible and not fall against any lug nuts, causing them to bind.

  • Continue in a counterclockwise fashion, loosening each lug nut a small bit at a time until they have all been removed.
