How to Put a Corvette Headlight Down Manually

Concealed headlights are a signature design feature on several Corvette models. The concealed headlight is both a cosmetic and functional feature. In the closed position it both protects the light bulb and decreases aerodynamic drag while enhancing the vehicle's exterior design. Headlights can fail to close correctly for multiple reasons including electric motor failure, stripped drive gears or wiring problems. This problem is often encountered by Corvette owners and Chevrolet has provided a solution to resolve the issue.

  • Turn the headlight switch to the off position. Remove the ignition key from the ignition and set the parking brake.

  • Open the hood and support with the hood support rod.

  • Wait until the headlight motor stops running for the headlight you need to lower manually. This may take more than 60 seconds if malfunctioning gears are the root cause of the headlight problem.

  • Locate the large black knob attached to the headlight motor. Rotate the knob in a clockwise direction until the headlight is in the fully closed position.

  • Release the hood support and close the hood. Verify the hood latches are locked in place by gently pulling upward on each corner of the hood near the windshield.
