How Do I Replace the Fuses on a Dodge Ram Fuse Box?

Replacing a fuse in your Dodge Ram can be accomplished quickly. Each electrical accessory in the truck is wired to a fuse. The fuse will blow if it experiences a surge of power. If an accessory on your Dodge Ram is not working, the first item you want to check is the fuse. Fuses come in different amps for different accessories. It is always a good idea to have a selection of fuses of different amperage on hand. You don't want to find yourself stranded with a non-functioning accessory, only to discover that you don't have the proper replacement fuse. For the same reason, you want to familiarize yourself with the location of the fuses in your truck.

Things You'll Need

  • Fuse puller
  • Replacement fuse
  • Open the hood and remove the negative battery connection from the battery. The negative connection is the black cable. Place the cable away from the battery.

  • Open the driver's-side front door and locate the fuse box. The fuse box is on the side of the dashboard where the door butts up against it. The door must be in the open position to reach the fuse box. The cover is stamped "fuse box."

  • Remove the fuse box cover with your hands. No tools are required to remove the cover--simply pull on the lever.

  • Locate the fuse that needs to be replaced. The fuse box label is located on the back side of the cover.

  • Remove the fuse using a fuse puller by pushing the fuse puller onto the fuse. The fuse puller will lock onto the fuse; pull it out.

  • Inspect the fuse after removal to make sure it's blown; the thin, metal strip in the center of the fuse will no longer be intact.

  • Push a new fuse into position in the fuse block using your hands.
