How to Bleed a 2004 GTO Clutch

The GTO is a fast and fun car to drive, but trying to do simple maintenance on it can make the car less attractive to owners. You can bleed a 2004 GTO clutch easily and in minutes, but getting to it in the first place can prove to be difficult. Once you know where to go under the car to find the bleed valve, though, the process of bleeding the clutch is as easy as on any other car.

Things You'll Need

  • Jack and jack stands
  • Socket set (with deep sockets)
  • DOT 4 clutch fluid
  • Jar
  • 12 feet of 3/8-inch diameter clear rubber hose
  • Park your 2004 GTO on a level surface. Engage the parking brake. Use a car jack to raise the vehicle and then transfer the weight of the vehicle to the jack stands.

  • Look underneath at the transmission. At the base of the flywheel you will see two access holes cut into the case. Look inside the holes to locate which one is the access for your bleed valve.

Access holes in the base of the transmission.
  • Select a deep socket that will fit onto the lock nut of your bleed valve. Open the bleed valve by turning it counterclockwise; the clutch fluid will begin to leak.

Fit your deep socket over the lock nut that is inside the case.
  • Pour an inch of clutch fluid in the bottom of a clean jar. Place one end of your clear rubber hose into the fluid in the jar and the other over the bleed valve. Have a helper press the clutch pedal repeatedly until no more fluid is pumped out.

  • Fill your clutch reservoir with clean fluid and have your helper press the pedal again until fluid comes out the bleed valve with no air bubbles visible in the tubing. Hand-tighten the bleed valve by turning it clockwise. Remove the tube and tighten the valve the rest of the way with a socket wrench. Top off the clutch fluid reservoir.
