How to Replace the Battery in an Infiniti G5

If you need to change the battery on your Infiniti G-series, you'll have to disconnect the terminals. The electronics on the G-Series require you to follow some unusual instructions in order to disconnect the negative terminal, stemming from the fact that the automatic window adjusting function turns off when the battery is disconnected. The windows can overextend, causing damage to the roof. Follow the instructions closely to avoid damage to the car.

Things You'll Need

  • Closed-end wrench
  • Protective eyewear
  • New battery

Remove the Battery

  • Close the windows to prevent damage to the windows and side roof panels.

  • Open the hood.

  • Remove the ignition key. Close and lock all doors.

  • Remove jewelry from your hands to avoid receiving a shock.

  • Fan the air around the battery to clear away possible battery gas. Battery gas is combustible and if it is ignited by a spark at the moment the battery circuit is severed, the gas could ignite. Such explosions have been known to cause blindness.

  • Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal by unscrewing the bolt on the clamp with a closed-end wrench. Make sure the clamp doesn't contact any metal.

  • Disconnect the positive (+) battery terminal.

  • Lift the battery out.

Install a New Battery

  • Unlock and open the driver's door. Don't close the door. The window can overextend when the battery is disconnected and damage the side roof panel.

  • Open the hood.

  • Place the replacement battery in the carriage.

  • Connect the positive (+) battery terminal.

  • Fan the area around the battery to clear away possible battery gas. Connect the negative (-) battery terminal.

  • Close the hood.

  • Open the driver's side window completely.

  • Close the driver's side door and the window.
