How to Charge a Dead Battery with the Battery Tender

If you store a vehicle for a long period of time, its battery will completely discharge eventually. You will have to charge the battery before you can use the vehicle. The Battery Tender is one product that you can use to charge a dead battery.

Things You'll Need

  • Battery Tender
  • Pop the hood and locate the battery in the engine compartment. Connect the alligator clips from the Battery Tender to the terminals on the battery. Attach the red clamp on the positive terminal and the black clamp on the negative terminal.

  • Plug the end of the cable from the Battery Tender into the cable on the alligator clips, then plug the battery tender into the wall.

  • Allow the battery to charge for at least 5 hours before attempting to start the vehicle. You will know when the charging is complete because the maintenance light on the Battery Tender illuminates. Unplug the charger, and start the vehicle.
