Mazda 3 Fog Light Replacement

The Mazda 3 is a popular sport compact car that, in some models, comes with optional fog lights. Often, the fog lights fail and need to be replaced. You can also replace the fog lights with better aftermarket lights. Whatever the reason, removing and replacing them on a Mazda 3 is an easy job that can be done in a few minutes.

When to Replace Fog Lights

  • The primary reason that you may need to replace the fog light is to replace a burned-out light. In this case, you can purchase new replacement fog lights from your local Mazda dealer or from an auto parts store. You can also replace your fog lights with higher-quality, brighter xenon high-intensity discharge (HID) bulbs that provide superior lighting. These are available from a variety of sources including eBay and the Auto Accessory Store, as well as your local auto parts store.

Removing the Old Fog Light

  • On a Mazda 3, it is a relatively easy task to replace a burned-out fog light or install an upgraded one. First, disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent any electrical shorts. Remove the two screws located in the wheel well that hold the wheel arch shield in place. Under the bumper at the corner of the car, there are three more bolts that will need to be removed with a socket. Carefully pry the wheel arch shield open. After you remove the shield, you should be able to see the back of the fog light housing. Press the tab on the bottom portion of the plastic clip that holds the fog light in place. Rotate the clip and the fog light counterclockwise to remove the fog light.

Install the New Fog Light

  • Pull the fog light out of the plastic clip/wiring harness. Install the new fog light in the clip. Reinstall the clip and the fog light in the housing. Bolt the wheel arch shield back on and reconnect the negative battery terminal. Turn the power on with the ignition switch and test the fog lights to make they are working properly.
