How to Service a Sun Roof in a Acura Integra

If you properly maintain your Acura Integra's sun roof, you can enjoy the open air in good weather and eliminate leaks and squeaks. It's generally recommended you clean and inspect your sun roof's rubber seals at least twice a year.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdrivers
  • Pliers
  • Plastic scraper
  • Sandpaper
  • Sun roof gasket
  • 3M weather stripping
  • Shims
  • Level
  • Screwdriver
  • Compressed air
  • 3-in-One lubricant
  • White lint free cloth

Replace a Sun Roof Seal

  • Take down the trim that secures the headliner to the top of your Acura Integra. Lay the pieces out in order so you can easily replace them, or take a digital photograph to refer to later. Remove all the trim and the headliner to fully access the sun roof assembly.

  • Slide the protective panel or shade that covers your sun roof back and locate the screws, bolts and clips that secure the sun roof to the vehicle. Gently tug the sun roof off the top of the vehicle and lift it aside after you remove the screws and bolts.

  • Remove the gasket that surrounds the opening in your sun roof. You may need to use a plastic trowel to scrape the gasket from the vehicle.

  • Clean out the trench where old gasket was seated and lay your new gasket inside. Make sure you remove the old seal entirely, as well as any adhesive that may interfere with the new seal.

  • Put the inner lip of the sun roof gasket into the trench, then use your plastic scraping tool to tuck the outer lip in. Check for wrinkles and adjust the gasket as needed until it's seated evenly and fully in the trench.

  • Replace the sunroof and reattach it using the screws, bolts and clips you removed to access the seal. Use shims, if needed, to ensure the sunroof assembly is level.

Maintain the Sun Roof

  • Inspect the exterior of your sun roof of your Acura Integra on a monthly basis. Look to make sure it's evenly seated, not lifting at one corner. Lifting indicates it's time to clean and lubricate the tracks.

  • Remove the headliner inside your vehicle, using a screwdriver to remove the trim pieces that hold it in place. Take a photo of the headliner's configuration to refer to later. Allow the front of the headliner to hang, so you have access to the inside of your Acura Integra's sun roof.

  • Locate the four drain tubes at each corner of your sun roof. Two drain behind your dash to your front fenders, while two drain to the trunk of your Acura Integra behind the tail lights. Gently slide each tube off of its connector, clear it with compressed air to remove any debris or clogs, and replace the tube.

  • View the tracks that move your sun roof from the interior of your vehicle. Regardless of whether your sun roof slides back or lifts, clean the tracks with compressed air to remove debris, then lubricate the tracks with 3-in-One Lubricant.

  • Lubricate and clean your rubber gaskets. Wipe them off with a clean rag, then use the lubricant outlined in your owner's manual. If your seals are stiff or show signs of excessive wear, replace them.

  • Return the headliner and interior trim to its original position, referring to the photograph you took in Step 2. Tighten the screws so they're snug, but not so tight they damage the fabric and plastic trim.
