How to Reset the Oil Light on a 2006 Nissan Maxima

Changing the oil in your 2006 Maxima is one of the most important maintenance procedures, but remembering the exact mileage when an oil change is due may be difficult, and the stickers you get from most oil-change shops fade before the next oil change is due. Your Maxima can help remind you when an oil change is due, via a "Maintenance" message on the instrument cluster or a "Pit" message on the navigation display. After changing the oil, you need to reset this system, so it will remind you when the next oil change is due.

Without Navigation

  • To reset the "Maintenance" light, press and release the "Maint" button on the control panel until "Engine Oil" shows on the display screen, then press and hold the "Maint" button or the "Trip Reset" button for around 1.5 seconds until the distance resets to "0."

With Navigation

  • Select "Maintenance Schedule" in the navigation system by moving the joystick left or right, then use the joystick to select "Engine Oil" and press the "Enter" key. Use the joystick to select "Reset" on the "Engine Oil" screen, then press the "Enter" key to reset the mileage counter.
