2006 Lincoln Zephyr Oil Change Instructions

2006 Lincoln Zephyr Oil Change Instructions

Lincoln recommends that you change the oil in your Zephyr every 5,000 miles so that the oil is properly protecting the engine. Thin, dirty oil will not do the job. You can have the oil changed in your Zephyr at the Lincoln dealer, but this can be costly. Save yourself time and labor costs by changing the oil yourself. With the right tools, this straightforward job can be done fairly easily at home.

Things You'll Need

  • Ratchet set
  • Plastic oil receptacle
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Oil filter
  • 5 qts. oil
  • Funnel
  • Rag
  • Park the Zephyr on level ground. Place the plastic oil receptacle under the oil pan to catch the oil as it drains from the engine.

  • Loosen the oil drain plug with the ratchet until it comes free. As you loosen the plug, oil will begin draining into the receptacle.

  • Remove the oil filter with the oil filter wrench. Allow the oil from the filter to drain into the receptacle. Drop the old filter into the receptacle for proper disposal later.

  • Place a small amount of fresh oil around the new oil filter's gasket. Hand-tighten the new filter into place. Finish tightening the oil filter with the oil filter wrench. Replace the oil drain plug and tighten it firmly, but don't overtighten it.

  • Unscrew the oil fill cap. The oil fill cap is located just to the left of "Lincoln." Place a funnel inside the opening. Pour five quarts of oil into the engine. Replace the oil fill cap.

  • Pull out the oil dipstick, which is located on top of the engine block beneath "Lincoln."

  • Wipe the dipstick clean with the rag. Reinsert the dipstick and pull it free again. If the oil level is between the low and high marks on the dipstick, there is no need to add oil. If the oil level is below the low mark, add more oil as needed. If the oil level is above the high mark, loosen the oil drain plug to remove the excess.
