Where Is the Jack Located in a 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500?

In 1999, Chevrolet introduced an all-new pickup to replace the outgoing C- and K-Series pickups. This 1999 Silverado came in three sizes: 1500, 2500 and 3500, and the 1500 model came standard with a 200-horsepower 4.3-liter V-6 engine. Also standard on the 1999 Silverado 1500 was a flat-tire tool kit that included a bottle jack for lifting the truck to change a flat tire.

Accessing the Bottle Jack

  • On regular-cab models, pull the vertical handle on the outermost edge of the passenger seat forward to flip the seatback forward. Look behind the seat and you will see the bottle jack cover, or the bottle jack, if the cover is missing. On extended-cab models, flip the passenger-side seat forward in the same manner, to gain access to the rear seat. Pull the nylon release strap hanging from the front, passenger side of the rear seat to release the seat cushion, then fold the seat cushion upward to gain access to the floor space under the seat. Look on the floor under the rear seat cushion and you will see the bottle jack cover.

Removing the Jack

  • Turn the wing nut on the bottle jack cover -- if equipped -- counterclockwise to remove it, then lift the cover from the bottle jack. Turn the knob on the bottle jack counterclockwise to relieve its pressure and pull the bottle jack from its holder.
