How to Polish My Alcoa 18-Wheeler Rims

You can polish your Alcoa rims without buying expensive cleaners that might damage them. The Alcoa rims help you save time and money on the road because of their light weight, strength and durability. Still, road debris, mud and dirt picked up from normal operation of your truck may stick to the rims and wear out the natural polish. A regular and simple maintenance procedure can go a long way to inhibit corrosion, bring out the natural polish and help you increase the service life of your Alcoa rims.

Things You'll Need

  • Water
  • Brush, if necessary
  • Mild detergent
  • Warm water
  • High-pressure water
  • Sponge or soft cloth
  • Clean water
  • Clean soft cloth
  • Automotive polish
  • Clean thoroughly the tire mounting area of the Alcoa rims using water and brush, if the wheel has been removed for service. If necessary, use a mild detergent mixed in warm water to remove dirt or any other material stuck to the tire side of the rim.

  • Wash the appearance side of the rim with high-pressure water to remove dirt and road debris that might be stuck on the surface of the rim.

  • Remove any material stuck on the appearance side of the rims using a mild detergent mixed in warm water. Wash the rim with a sponge or soft cloth and avoid using a brush. If your 18-wheeler is equipped with Dura-Bright-treated Alcoa rims, use soap and warm water as described here only if necessary. Otherwise, you need only cold water to clean the rim exterior surface.

  • Rinse the appearance side of the rim thoroughly with clean water.

  • Wipe dry the appearance side of the rim with a clean, soft cloth only.

  • Apply a coat of automotive polish to the appearance side of the rim following the instructions on the product's label. Do not use automotive polish on Dura-Bright-treated Alcoa rims.
