How to Change the Tire on a 97 BMW 528I

The BMW 5 series has been one of the most popular models made by the German auto giant, with new and improved versions being released on a regular basis. Most modern BMW 5 series are fitted with run-flat tires, unlike the 1997 528i, which was produced before run-flat tires were available. Changing its tires is not a difficult task.

Things You'll Need

  • Car jack
  • Socket set
  • Spare wheel
  • Pull the car over to a safe area when a tire becomes flat. Park the car on a level surface, turn off its ignition and set the parking brake.

  • Loosen, do not remove, the wheel nuts with the socket wrench.

  • Raise the car off the ground with the jack.

  • Remove the wheel nuts, using the socket wrench, and the wheel with the flat tire.

  • Remove the spare wheel from the pan located under the car by removing the nut holding it in place, turning counterclockwise. Place the flat tire in the pan and replace the nut holding it place, turning clockwise.

  • Place the spare wheel on the car and tighten the wheel nuts as much as possible.

  • Lower the car to the ground with the jack. Tighten the wheel nuts with the socket wrench.
