How to Check Air Pressure in a Tire in a Lincoln Navigator

The Lincoln Navigator is a high-end sports utility vehicle. When you purchase this vehicle, it's important to maintain the quality of the car. This makes doing the necessary maintenance highly important, which includes checking tire pressure every time you fill up or when they appear low. Checking tire pressure is especially important in cold weather and proper inflation helps improve your gas mileage.

Things You'll Need

  • Tire gauge
  • Know what your tire pressure should be. The 2008 Navigator comes equipped with P255/70R18 112H tires. The 112 means that the Navigator has a weight load of 2,484 pounds. The amount of pressure needed in your tires is determined by this weight load. Lincoln recommends pressure of 26 to 36 psi on the Navigator.

  • Use the tire gauge. Remove the cap from the air valve and push on the tire gauge. After about two seconds, remove the gauge to view the reading.

  • Let some of the air out, if the tires are overinflated. Warm conditions often mean tire air pressure is higher than it should be. If this is the case, press down on the air valve. You will hear a hissing sound, which signifies the air coming out of the tire.

  • Increase the air pressure if the tire appears to be low. Inflate it to the recommended pressure level.

  • Recheck the pressure. After you let out what you think is the right amount of air, check the pressure again. Add more air with a tire pump if you let out too much, or release more air if needed.

  • Repeat these steps on each of the tires. After you have adjusted the air pressure on your first tire, be sure to check the pressure on your other three tires to make sure have the appropriate amount of air in each tire.
