In 1995, Chevrolet completely redesigned the Cavalier, giving it a more aerodynamic look. This modern look lasted through its elimination, in 2006. The 2003 Cavalier came with a 140-horsepower, 2.2-liter, four-cylinder engine standard. Replacing the spark plugs in the 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier is just one part of maintaining the vehicle. Using the correct spark plugs for the Cavalier is very important, as is replacing the plugs in accordance to Chevrolet's recommendation of every 100,000 miles.
Chevrolet recommends using AC Delco part number 41-981 spark plugs. These spark plugs have a gap of 0.042 inches -- plus or minus 0.002 inches -- and they are platinum-tipped. Exchange any incorrectly gapped spark plugs for new ones, as platinum-tipped plugs are not adjustable.
You are in no way required to use AC Delco spark plugs. Many auto parts stores provide a cross-reference list of spark plugs. You can select an equivalent plug from this list.
When replacing spark plugs, knowing the correct torque amount for tightening the spark plugs is highly important -- Chevrolet recommends 15 foot-pounds of torque.
