Magnaflow After-Cat Exhaust - Four Wheeler Magazine

Ken Brubaker Senior Editor, Four Wheeler

After-cat exhaust systems can improve your engine's performance and give it a healthy sound. This particular install is the Magnaflow after-cat system for a Hemi-powered 2003 Dodge Ram 2500. The system is mandrel-bent, fully welded, and has been dyno-tested and proven to make power. It has a smooth, deep tone and a lifetime warranty.

The owner of this rig had the team at Attitude Performance in Arlington Heights, Illinois, complete the install on their lift, and it took them about an hour from start to finish. The majority of that time was spent removing the stock system. Plan for a slightly longer install time if you're installing the kit in your garage or driveway without a lift.

The kit comes with long and short intermediate pipes that go between the catalytic converter and muffler. The longer pipe is used on longbed trucks, while the shorter pipe is used on shortbed trucks. Three-inch-diameter clamps are used on the intermediate pipe at the catalytic converter and at the front of the muffler. A hanger bracket is welded onto the intermediate pipe and it mounts to the OEM rubber isolator.
3.Next up, the rear extension pipes are installed to the rear of the muffler. Both of these pipes have hangers that mount to the OEM rubber isolators and are attached to the muffler with 21/2-inch clamps.

4.The tailpipes go on next, and they each have welded-on hangers. The passenger-side tailpipe hanger mounts in the OEM rubber isolator location, but because there is no OEM mount on the driver-side, the kit includes everything needed to add a hanger assembly to support the new driver-side tailpipe. Magnaflow recommends that after the tailpipes are installed the entire system be adjusted to ensure proper clearance. The system is then completely tightened before the chrome exhaust tips are installed. This helps to avoid scratching the tips. With that, the install is done and all that is left is to inspect all fasteners after 25 to 50 miles of operation to ensure that they are all tight.
