House of Kolor Paint & Techniques How To's

As our hobby--or better yet, lifestyle--screams banshee-like into the 21st century, fresh ideas are becoming as scarce as virgin Deuce sheetmetal. This ain't necessarily the whole truth; it might just be that some folks are afraid to break the mold, to try new things. But we know a group of guys who never hesitate to try something new when it comes to kustom paint. They toss fear on its rear, cram the shifter into high, and just stand on it. They're called Kal Koncepts and Air Syndicate, and they're bending all the rules. Kal Koncepts, owned and operated by Dion Giuliano and Kyle Gann, takes care of paint and graphics, while Craig Fraser of Air Syndicate handles the airbrushing and pinstriping. These three maestros have formed a tight bond and collaborate on just about every vehicle that rolls through the doors.

They use House of Kolor paint products exclusively and not only are they an authorized dealer, but they're mad scientists when it comes to pushing the limits of a product that was designed to exceed limits. House of Kolor has always set the standard for custom paint technology, tracing its roots back to 1956, when then-owner Jon Kosmoski realized that nobody made paint with the quality, durability, and innovative colors that show-car builders demanded.

The following photos give a general outline of the House of Kolor products, colors, and methods these guys use to achieve each of today's hottest effects.. Assume that all the bodywork and prep have been completed before step one for any of these effects, and the surface is coated with House of Kolor's KP-2 Kwikure primer/surfacer. Also, keep in mind that due to the transparency of some of the House of Kolors paints, not to mention variances in your equipment and techniques, your results will more than likely vary depending on which colors you combine. Be smart and squirt sample panels before applying any custom technique to your vehicle. Take a gander at some of the effects that can be achieved and don't be scared to experiment. That's exactly how some of these effects came about.
