Forgeline
Evolution Series
Forgeline began manufacturing wheels for racecars more than 15 years ago. Since its founders were racers themselves, they were able to draw and build on knowledge gained from years of track experience. Forgeline wheels are used by racers in virtually every professional and amateur sports car series in the United States.

Forgeline's new Evolution, or EV Series, wheels are available in both one-piece monoblock and three-piece modular configurations. Engineered for the punishment of endurance racing, they provide numerous improvements over the highly successful ZX3-R race wheels. Both new wheels are structurally 15 percent stronger and 5 to 20 percent lighter, depending on application, through precise machining.

The EV series blends form and function; five contoured V-shaped spokes converge at the center, each vee's point sharing and reducing the number of joints at the hub section, reducing the amount of material required. The design also provides big-brake caliper and lug nut clearance.

The one-piece EV1-R is claimed to be 27 percent stiffer than previous Forgeline three-piece wheels. It's CNC-machined from a block of 6061 T6 forged aluminum, and is compatible with all pressure monitoring systems.

The three-piece EV3-R traces its roots back to the company's original SX3-R modular race wheel. Improvements in design and materials continued to progress through the knowledge gained from their second generation ZX3-R and WC3-R series of three piece competition wheels. The EV3-R is an evolutionary 10 spoke style, and offers improved valve stem and component sealing, as well as the tried and true 6061 T6 aluminum true forged centers, heat treated 6061 T6 rim shells, and titanium fasteners.

Forgeline ensures each application fits properly and works with aftermarket big-brake kits, and even ensures brake caliper clearance using their close relationships with major performance brake manufacturers. As an added bonus, many Forgeline customers will also experience improved acceleration, braking, and handling due to the very significant reduction of unsprung weight.

The EV Series offers considerable flexibility in sizing, lug pattern, and offset availability. The EV1-R can be ordered in a variety of finishes, and is currently available in an 18-inch diameter from 9 to 13 inches in width. The EV3-R offers even greater order choices since center and rim finishes can be chosen individually. The EV3-R is currently available in 18 inch sizes from 7 to 15 inches in width. Forgeline is in the process of completing the engineering and testing of 19 inch sizes in both of these new wheel lines; go to their site (www.forgeline.com) for up-to-date information. -Doug Neilson

Heat is the enemy, and it's an eventuality when dealing with a high performance turbo system. Design Engineering (DEI) offers a Titanium Turbo Shield tailor-fit for the popular T3 turbocharger. The turbo "blanket" is made from pulverized lava rock that's extruded into fibers, which are then woven into a tight mesh to give the material "titanium-like" strength and durability. A high-temperature-rated silica insulation padding serves as added protection. Reportedly, the material can handle direct, continuous heat up to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit and up to 2500 degrees F of radiant heat.
