Auto Insurance Claims: Car Arson, bmw 328i, insurence company

Question
Hi, I had my brand new BMW 328i for about 2 weeks before someone burned the back of it along with the trashbags in NYC while it was parked roadside. I live in pennsylvania. Car has less than 1600 miles on it.NYPD has not been able to find out who the culprit is.
Can I ask for a new replacement car to my insurence company? I have comprehensive with uninsured motorist and underinsured motorist coverage. How do I approach the situation?
Thank you in advance.

Answer
Hi Som,

You need to call your insurance company as soon as possible to rerport the claim. Your insurance comapny will send an adjuster to inspect the car and assess the damage as well as write a repair estimate. If the cost of the repairs will be more than 70% of the value of the vehicle then it will be totaled out. Once it is declared a total loss, then you can start discussing with your insurance company what they will pay for the car. If the damage is not very extensive then the insurance company will only pay for the cost of the repairs. You will have to select a body shop to repair the car and have it moved there.

I hope this helps
