Question
My son has been in a car accident, about 2years ago. he has gone Through two surgeries for the repairs of both ear drums, due to air bag deployment.  The insurance just came through with a settlement of $30,000 his hospital bills were over $20,000 and have all been paid.Is he responsible for the taxes, and how do i find out if this is fair? Because of the weekend ears there could well be life long problems, and it is hard to say what could happen, do to the sensitived of the ears.Could we ask for coverge on top of the cash settlment?

Answer
Hello KAREN,

Well, the insurance company is responsible for the entire bill (medical bill), taxes included. If you are talking about his pain and suffering, they are not taxable.

To find out if this is fair, you want to talk to an attorney. It's about the best way to really know, locally, if your case does support a permanent injury (ear drum damage) and probably give you a substantially higher settlement. To find a local attorney, please see:

If you would not like to get a lawyer involved (not recommended), please see:

I hope this helps
