Auto Insurance Claims: check from insurance co for time off from work, claims advice, claim settlement

Question
QUESTION: The insurance company sent me a check for $348 for time off from work, I did cash the check but didn't sign a release that they encnclosed, can i still file more bodily ingury claims

ANSWER: Hi Mary,

You haven't provided enough information for me to answer.  Usually, you are required to sign a release before a check is sent. That may not be the case here.
If you want to provide additional details, type of coverage and more about the facts, I could attempt to clarify for you.

QUESTION: this was a auto accident where I got hit i the back, the other parties
insurance is taking full responsibility

Answer
 Hi Mary,

That gives me a little more ...

What has the adjuster said?  I am going to assume that you were injured.  What you need to do is to read the enclosed release carefully to see what you are releasing. Are you sure it is only for missed work, or are they having you sign a release for all future claims?

If it is only for missed work, signing the release would probably mean that you are agreeing that you are not going to miss any more time as a result of your injuries.  That does seem somewhat unusual to me.  You had better read the release very carefully to make sure you are not signing away all related claims.

Why would you submit more bodily injury claims? Have you had uncovered medical expenses, are you still injured? Are you still receiving medical treatment?

You could contact the adjuster and ask that he/she clarify the terms of the release, but, of course, in that case you would have to take their word for it.
