Auto Insurance Claims: Separate policy husband and wife?, Separate policy husband and wife?

Question
My wife and I have 2 cars covered with Allstate. I have had 3 accident claims in the last 5 years and I was just convicted of a wet reckless DUI (in California) I realize my rates will shoot up and Allstate may even cancel the policy because of the DUI. My wife has had a spotless driving record for 40 years and she feels that she should get her own insurance just for her. Is that possible? Could she have insurance on one car and I insure the other car for me that will write a pokicy for someone with a DUI on his record?

Answer
Hello John,

It's possible. You just need to find an agent willing to work with you. They might have to write a policy for you and exclude her from coverage. Do the say in her policy and completely exclude you from her car and coverages.

Some insurance companies will not want to work with you as if you have a propensity to drink, you might just take her car anyway. It could be difficult, but, yes it is possible.

Also, you want to check different carriers before making a decision (rates very a lot), I like this site:
