Auto Insurance Claims: Towed vehicle, small boat, insurance company

Question
I was towing a small boat that broke its cables and fell onto a busy highway late at night. I stopped but was unable to do anything before the boat was struck by another vehicle. The other driver and his passenger were not hurt, but the car was totaled. Will my auto insurance pay for the damage to the other car since this was a towed vehicle? If not, will I have to pay for the damages?

Answer
Hi David,

This should be covered since you were pulling a trailer. Each state may have slightly different wording in the policy. You should read your policy for the definitions of "Your Covered Auto". That will explain what is considr to be a covered auto. In most cases this should include a trailer being pulled by your listed vehicle in the policy. The only way to know for sure is to file the claim with your insurance company. If for some reason it is not covered then you would be personally responsible for paying for the damage to the other persons vehicle.

I hope this helps
