Auto Insurance Claims: Auto Claim-Bike on roof entering garage, liable to yourself

Question
I just had an accident driving my car into the garage with my bike on the roof. My car has a decent amount of paint and dent damage from the rack coming loose off of the car. The rack has broken anchors that attached to the car and the bike trays are damaged. The bike also has damage but I am not sure about frame damage. My main question is: Will the collision coverage cover the cost of the bike repair and rack replacement since they were attached to the car?

Thanks

Answer
Rich,

Believe it or not, I have handled a claim just like yours.  I had to ask the staff counsel how to handle the claim.  The damage to the rack could possibly be covered if it is permanently attached to the vehicle, but the bike is a lost cause.

With that being said, you should always have a professional review your policy if the amount of your loss warrants it.  Additionally, just for a little clarification, damage to anything other than your vehicle would be covered under the liability portion of your policy, and you can't be liable to yourself, follow?  This is why the bike wouldn't be covered.

  I hope this helps!
