Auto Insurance Claims: Hit and Run, specific company, tree stump

Question
There was a big snow storm.  In an alley I drove into what I thought was a bush but was a small tree stump that crushed in my bumper and backing up the door was deeply scratched by a screw sticking out of a planter.  So low I couldn't see it.  Then a day later my car was side swiped while parked in street. Dented the back panel.  I don't know who did it.  Will this count as two accidents for my insurance? Any idea of how much insurance goes up? It's been a couple weeks but not working now and would like to wait a little longer before telling the insurance company and I have to pay for the deductible.  What are the usual time limits?  Car is on lease so I have to fix it.

Answer
Generally, the time limit is "reasonably promptly" after the accident occurs.  This leave some room for interpretation.  Normally, you will just have to explain the delayed report and that will be it.  As for the two separate occurrences, unfortunately it would be considered two claim,s and would require payment of two deductibles.  As far as your insurance going up, it will be based on your specific company's underwriting policies.  Sometimes they give you a few freebies if they are not at fault, or small, but I would be speculating if gave an answer to how much the insurance will go up.  It could go up, or it may not affect your rate at all.

I hope this helps.
