Auto Insurance Claims: is it too late to file claim??, freeway in the rain, nissan 350z

Question
"Aprox. 2 weeks ago I spun out on the freeway in the rain, and slammed my sports car (Nissan 350z) into the center divider. Had it towed home threw AAA, replaced the bent rims out of my own pocket, and continued on. Took it to a shop today, camber is screwed up, front drivers side (collision side) bearing is screwed up, suspension is messed up as well. EST. well over 1k. My question is if I call my insurance company and tell them this happened 2 weeks ago will they cover it? Is it better to just say I hit a pothole in the freeway and slammed into divider today? Insurance is Mercury through A.I.S. if it makes a difference, full coverage Comprehensive/Collision $500 deduct. Will this raise my rates as well?

Answer
Kyle,

It is not too late to file a claim.  Tell the truth.  You may have a question or two thrown at you because of the delay, but simply explain as you did to me.  If you thought you could get out of it without filing a claim, that is a pretty good reason to not file a claim.  Since you did replace the wheels and such, that will help your credibility.  I wouldn't worry about it, just tell them the truth, it is still covered.  This likely won't raise your rates, but it could.  It truly depends on the underwriting system used by your carrier.  Some carriers give a freebie accident, and some carriers don't count them against you until you have two or three.  Each company is different, so you would have to contact the underwriting department for your carrier to be sure.

I hope this helps.
