Auto Insurance Claims: Auto Insurance denied coverage, two cars, grace period

Question
I picked up my truck that was stored at my wives place 50 miles away.  On my way home I got in an accident.  I planned to get it on my plan with my other two cars but the accident happened before I even got home. They denied coverage! Now I am really in a jam. I thought you at least had 24hrs to put a car on insurance.

Answer
Hi Brian,

There is no grace period in auto insurance except for a newly purchased vehicle. If you buy a new vehicle you have 30 days to add it to your policy. The coverage that would be available in that case would be what ever coverage you already had on the policy.

So unless you can prove you only purchased this vehicle within the last 30 days there is no coverage. Unfortunately, you will be personally responsible for the repairs to your truck as well as any other vehicles involved and the cost of any injuries associated with the collision.

I hope this helps
