Auto Insurance Claims: unique situation, newly purchased vehicle in accident

Question
i was in an accident dec 17, in a truck insured by me, but owned by my grandmother. we were in the process of getting the truck signed over to me, but needed to file for a lost title. long story short, the truck had not been inspected, and i was using my old trucks' license plates. by the way the truck was totaled. am i likely to get a claim?

p.s. fault was not mine.

Answer
Jason,

All that matters is that the truck described on the declarations page is the one that got totaled. The wrong license plates does not excuse the insurer from their obligation to pay the claim. And most policies give you automatic coverage for 15 or 30 days for newly purchased vehicles. Read your policy on this.

To make the insurer feel comfortable, tell them to put your name and your grandmothers name on the check and let you and your grandmother decide who gets the money. As to the trucks settlement value, if you think you were lowballed, consider an eBook at UClaim.com entitled Total Loss Auto for Insureds.
