Auto Insurance Claims: AN OLD ACCIDENT, ferraro, insurance company

Question
Hi Ernest My name is Donald and I was in a car accident about 4 years ago. My brakes went out and I hit another car, me being 21 and not knowing the importance of having auto insurance because no one ever thinks it would happen to them. I did not have any. When I went to the DMV they told me that my License is suspended because I have an outstanding judgment with an insurance company, I checked online and they are suing me for 10,000 now im pretty scared because I dont know what to do. Am I really responsible for the whole amount??? and if payment arrangements are made will my license get reinstated?

Answer
Donald, sorry to hear about your situation.

Unfortunately, if you didn't have insurance at the time of the accident then you are responsible.  As far as your license is concerned you need to figure out what judgment they are talking about - was it failure to pay a premium or failure to pay a verdict against you regarding the accident?  Either way, you probably need to resolve the judgment before your state DMV will likely issue you a new license.

Best of luck,
