Auto Insurance Claims: 3 year old accident bill., state drivers license, voice mail

Question
I was i an accident 2 years ago. I was hit but since PA is a fault state, the
accident was considered my fault. I was coming out of a stop sign and the
lady hit me. I had 2 passengers and she had none. My car was totaled hers
was not. I had gotten home form the accident and my mom had said she was
going to take care of it and got on the phone.
The next morning she said everything was being taken care of and that since
we had liability that the other persons car was covered not hers. So she then
went got my things out of the car I was driving and sent it to a junk yard.
I was a secondary driver and was 17. I thought that she had taken care of it
all.
Earlier this year I drove to Florida to look at my future school and apartment
I would be staying at with my girlfriend. I had gotten stooped on my way
down and they told me my license was suspended and I was awestruck.
My license was actually suspended since december of this year but other
than the accident I had never gotten stopped. PA never told me it was
suspended or to turn in my license. I payed that ticket and found out that my
insurance company never paid them. My mom insisted that she called them
and they said they are investigating the issue.
I recently moved and no longer trust that my mom is taking care of anything.
I called the insurance company and they sent me to a voice mail of someone
not in for a few days to talk to so I left a message.
I can't drive, I can't get out any credit based loans for school so I am going
online, and my girlfriend needs to look for other insurance b/c my license is
suspended and hers will not cover now that we live together.
Any advice?

Answer
Hi Jay,

This is an unfortunate situation. However, it will be up to you to unwind whatever has happened. You should get a notebook and keep meticulose records of everyone you talk to the date and time that you talked to them and what they say.

You need to contact your state drivers license office to see exactly what was the reason for your license being suspended and what needs to be done in order to get it reinstated.

You need to contact your mothers insurance company at the time of the accident and find out what happened with the claim. Was it ever paid? Who was paid? How much were they paid? what were they paid for?

Your next steps will be determined by what information you develope from getting the above information. Keep in mind none of the people you talk to will be talking to each other. So if the insurance company says everything has been paid, you will need to get proof of that to send to the state. The insurance comapny will not send anything to get your license reinstated.

I hope this helps
