Auto Insurance Claims: My body shop is really bad. Plz help me, retal car, insurance company

Question
My body shop did a lot of supplemental repairs without noticing either me and my insurance company. My original estimate that AAA appraiser gave was $2500. Now they ask $4500. Isn't it illegal that they did any more body work without pre-approval? My car is already done, but they said they won't release my car before getting those extra money. So, they reported this to my insurance company and are waiting the appraiser come by their shop and approve it. The worst thing is my insurance cover only 25 day rental service. Today is 27th, so I pay my retal car out of my pocket. I am not sure how more days I need to wait. It's really stupid that I can't get back my car even after job is done. Please tell me what I am supposed to do.

Answer
The legality of performing additional repairs without authorization varies from state to state.

It will be up to your insurer to determine if these additional repairs were justified and whether to pay for them.

Unless the shop is willing to pay for your rental, it will have to come out of pocket.
