Auto Insurance Claims: Claim filed but no further contact with the insurer, repair estimate, cancelation

Question
My car was scratched by the bend tree branches due to the snow. I filed a comprehensive claim and told an adjuster I would have it estimated. If the repair costs are lower than the deductible, should I inform my insurer of the cancelation of the claim? If I never inform my insurer about the actual costs because the cost is lower than the deductible, will my case be automatically closed?

Answer
Hi Luo,

You should get a repair estimate and if the cost is below your deductible, you should call your insurance company to tell them to close the file. It is possible they will close it themselves but you should call them to be sure.

I hope this helps
